Rejoice always,
pray without ceasing,
give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5 verses 16, 17, 18

Just recently I wrote an article where I quoted a mnemonic. The only problem was that I spelt mnemonic as ‘pneumonic’ and of course the spell checker didn’t alert me to the fact.

Paul wrote to the Thessalonians and gave an insight as to the will of God for everyone. His exhortation is for all of God’s people and it is valid for every day of our lives. So here is my ‘mnemonic’ that I use daily to remind myself of God’s will for me:

These are things to ‘RPT’ repeat daily.

Rejoice  Pray  Thank

Rejoice – in the salvation we have through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray – for our needs and the needs of others.
Thank God for all the good gifts that we have from Him.

All three of these actions are expressions of worship: Remembering all Jesus has done for us, recognising we need God to bless us and help us and thanking God for all that He has already given to us. So, while we cannot yet sing in Church and be ‘pneumonic’, we can rejoice, pray and thank God using a ‘mnemonic’.
