No one can serve two masters;
for a slave will either hate the one and love the other,
or be devoted to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and wealth.
25 ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or what you will drink,
or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and
yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Matthew 6 v 24 – 26

A slave is the sole property of one master; he or she must give the master exclusive service. In the same way, a disciple’s loyalties cannot be divided—that is, one is either a slave to God or to money. If we make the right choices in life and we store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, we will have no need to be anxious about our long term future. Jesus gives two examples of God caring for things in creation—the birds and the lilies. God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies. We are of more value to God than all the birds and flowers. Knowing this is what will help us not to be anxious and to be able to trust in God to care for us and provide for us. Humankind, (we) are of more value than birds, flowers and everything else in creation. We are of the highest value to God because only humans, out of all God’s creation are created “in the image of God” We are of infinite value to God so our minds can be at rest. That means we can be reassured by Jesus when He says to us,

“Do not worry about our lives; you are of more value than the birds”.
