“When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was nearer; for God thought, ‘If the people face war, they may change their minds and return to Egypt.’  So God led the people by the roundabout way of the wilderness towards the Red Sea.”
(Exodus 13 verses 17 and 18)

People say ‘God’s ways are not our ways’ and that is exactly what God said through His prophet Isaiah,

““For my thoughts are not Your thoughts,
neither are Your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than Your ways
and my thoughts than Your thoughts.””
(Isaiah 55 verses 8 and 9)

In the Exodus God did not lead His people by the physical route (way) that they might have chosen, and He does not always lead us in the way that we think is the best for us. Sometimes (although it may be really hard) we have to trust that where God wants us to get to is the best for us and the way He wants us to take to get there is also what is best.

“Thank You Lord God
that You always want the very best for us
and the way to what is best for us
is the way that You choose for us”.

If you have never asked God to lead and guide you and be the most important person in your life here is another prayer you may like to pray,

Heavenly Father,
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life.
Please forgive me.
I now turn from everything that I know is wrong
and choose to be led and guided through life by You.
Thank You that You sent Your Son, Jesus,
to die on the cross for me
so that I could be forgiven and set free.
From now on I will follow and obey Him as my Lord.
