‘Come to Me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me;
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.’
Matthew 11 v 28 – 30

A parent was cycling with their young child in a safe and quiet park and they said,
“It’s safe here; you can cycle ahead of me, behind me or next to me now”
The child replied,
“I’ll cycle next to you so that we can talk together”.

This gives a lovely insight into what it means to be yoked to Jesus. Of course He is the One who knows when the road is safe and He knows which way is best for us. We for our part are the ones who are left free to choose whether we will travel with Him or not. If we decide to go with Jesus then we can also choose to not rush ahead of Him and His leading, not to stay back lagging behind Him, but rather choose to be next to Him where we are able to talk with Him and listen to Him.

Lord, help me not to lean on my own understanding
but in everything to acknowledge You
so that You can direct my thoughts,
direct my words,
and direct my actions.
Amen
